Life Insurance with Autism

Overview

Insurers in general have a reputation for declining life insurance and other covers to those with Autism, sometimes now as Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD.

However, it is often possible to find cover for some who have Autism provided they and their loved one's have a genuine financial need for the protection and they have the capacity to sign the application form.

Every individual is affected differently by Autism and so it is difficult to generalise about the availability of Life Insurance while being relevant, useful and accurate for everyone.

If you have not yet approached mainstream insurers for Life Cover, this is a good first step as cover may be available.

We are not always able to find cover, but we like to think if cover is available, we will find it.

Your Autism

Pulse regularly find cover for people with a wide range of conditions.

We find that each person is best treated as an individual and so providing any generic guidance across all conditions is difficult.

If you have or have previously had any other conditions in addition to your Autism - please also search again to review detail for those conditions.

Life Insurance with Autism

Typically, finding Life Insurance once you have been diagnosed with Autism can be more difficult.

Your specific situation should be assessed fairly by every life underwriter and where there is increased risk, premiums may be rated accordingly and in some instances the life cover sought may not always be available.

If you have been declined by some insurers already, our underwriters will need to fully understand your past and present health in detail.

The underwriters will make their assessment based on medical reports and should focus upon your Autism and how it impacts your daily life.

Other Conditions or Complications

Sometimes Autism can bring or be associated with other health issues such as Angelman Syndrome, Asperger’s Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, Lanau-Kleffner Syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Tardive Dyskinesia, and Williams Syndrome. These may have a bearing on the availability and cost of Life Insurance and you should give details in your enquiry.

If you need a specialist underwriter

Pulse specialise in taking specific conditions and needs into account and finding you Life Insurance cover, if it is available.

We use our knowledge and experience to find a solution when other Life Insurers have declined to quote.

Why Pulse Insurance?

  • Pulse Insurance have been focused on finding unusual cover since 1998

  • If we cannot help, it will not be for the want of trying or know-how

While finding cover for everyone is not always possible and the premium will be higher to reflect increased risk, we like to think we are good at helping people find the cover they need.

Often, we can offer indicative premiums and/or sense of if cover may be available fairly quickly; so, you can decide to proceed or not with a formal policy application. Sometimes however, we may need to await receipt of detailed Medical Report(s), the underwriters will arrange and pay for these if you take out cover.

Being Transparent

It is always important to declare your Autism and any other medical conditions completely.

Your Health & Beyond

Every person who lives with Autism knows that their condition and any complications will be in some way unique to them. Other aspects of your physical health and lifestyle can separately impact your risk and the cover available. These will be explicitly considered when determining the fair premium, you would pay.

Your Pulse underwriting specialist will look to gain a detailed picture of your mental health and you should take care to disclose everything.

As you have a medical condition, it is likely that underwriters will need to seek a Doctor’s report or for you to undergo medical examinations, blood tests or other tests that will confirm your health to allow them to quote an accurate premium and confirm cover details. The costs involved in obtaining the medical information are usually paid by the underwriter, but if not, you will be informed before they are requested.

Pulse will never sell your details to anyone ever. We will use your details to provide the service you have asked for according to the permissions you grant us– read our Privacy and Data Protection policy in full.
