Life Insurance after Malignant Sarcoma(s)
Overview
Life Insurance is not always available for those who have suffered from Malignant Sarcoma.
If you have only had benign, non-cancerous Sarcoma(s) – you can review our more specific Benign Sarcoma information.
Type of Cancer
The type of Sarcoma you have been diagnosed with and the stage and the severity of your cases will all affect the treatment you receive and may impact your future prognosis. Where a full recovery can be made, the availability of insurance will not be certain and will depend on the type of Sarcoma.
If you have just been diagnosed
If you have just been diagnosed with a Malignant Sarcoma, or have been asked to undergo further tests, it will not be possible to take out any new Life insurance policies at this stage.
If you have any existing life insurance policies which were taken out before you were diagnosed or fell ill, then this cover is not usually affected. Life Insurance is underwritten based on a snapshot of your health when your policy incepts and you are usually covered for new illnesses that happen after that.
If you are being treated for a Malignant Sarcoma
If you are still receiving ongoing treatment for cancer or have been asked to undergo further tests or additional treatment or if you are awaiting new test results, it is not possible to take out any new Life Insurance policies at this stage.
If your Malignant Sarcoma treatment has completed
The availability of cover after a Malignant Sarcoma has been successfully treated depends on the type of cancer as well as the staging and severity of the cancer and the individual person’s recovery.
Our underwriters will not be able to consider cover for anyone until treatment has been completed and an additional period of time has elapsed so that it is clear the person’s condition is stable and the cancer has been proven not to have returned or spread.
This Postponement period is therefore very dependent on the type of Sarcoma and your specific case.
As you approach the point above, you may wish to begin enquiring about cover. For many Malignant Sarcoma, this point will usually be 24 months after treatment is completed by way of comparison most standard market insurers insist on waiting at least 5 years after treatment before they are able to consider offering terms.
If you would like to discuss any of this before enquiring, please do not hesitate to contact us.
