Sarcoma (Benign)

Life Insurance after Benign Sarcoma

Overview

If you have had benign, non-cancerous Sarcoma(s) – you will usually be able to find life cover through mainstream insurers although this does depend on your tumour’s location and how it can be treated.  Unfortunately, life Insurance is not always available from mainstream insurers for those who have suffered from Malignant Sarcoma (review our specific details.

In addition, life cover cannot usually be arranged while you are waiting for surgery / treatment for any condition or in the recovery period afterwards.

Pulse specialise in finding cover when other insurers decline.  If you would like to discuss any of this before enquiring, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Type of Sarcoma

Of course, the type of Sarcoma you have been diagnosed with and the stage and the severity of your case will all affect the treatment you receive and may impact your future prognosis. Where a benign tumour has been successfully treated or if treatment is not necessary and a full recovery is made, insurance is likely to be available from mainstream insurers.

Where a Sarcoma is benign but it may impact on the major organs of the body like the brain or lungs and so can affect their function, you may be declined and this is where Pulse may be able to help.

If you have seen a Benign Sarcoma grow back after surgery or you have / had multiple Sarcomas, again cover may not always be available from mainstream insurers.

If you have just been diagnosed

If you have just been diagnosed with a Sarcoma, or have been asked to undergo further tests, it will not be possible to take out any new Life insurance policies at this stage.

If you have any existing life insurance policies which were taken out before you were diagnosed or fell ill, then this cover is not usually affected. Life Insurance is underwritten based on an overview of your health when your policy incepted and you are usually covered for new illnesses that happen after that although if in doubt you should speak to your insurer.

If you are being treated for a Sarcoma

If you are awaiting surgery or have been asked to undergo further tests or additional treatment or if you are awaiting new test results, it is not possible to take out any new Life Insurance policies at this stage.

If your Sarcoma treatment has completed

The availability of cover can be investigated after a Benign Sarcoma has been successfully treated.

Our underwriters will not be able to consider cover for anyone until treatment has been completed and an additional period of time has elapsed so that it is clear the person’s condition is stable and that the tumour has not returned and other tumours have not appeared.

This Postponement period is therefore very dependent on the type of Sarcoma and your specific case but will be at least 6 months after treatment.

As you approach the point above, you may wish to contact Pulse about cover. For many Benign Sarcomas, this point will usually be 6-12 months after treatment is completed: by way of comparison most standard market insurers insist on waiting at least a few years after treatment before they are able to consider offering terms.

Medical Reports

If you have any recent or relevant medical reports, these can enable underwriters to provide a more accurate indication.

Please send these either to [email protected] or post them to us

n.b. Do not worry if you don’t have any medical reports as they are not usually needed to give an indication of cover / cost.
It may be necessary anyway for separate specific medical reports to be sought if you decide to proceed with an application.
