It is not usually difficult to obtain cover for the majority of angling activity from mainstream insurers.

There are many forms of Fishing and some do carry more risk than others. The details here apply in general to all of the following:  Coarse Fishing, Deep Sea Fishing, Freshwater Fishing, Ice Fishing, Kayak/ Canoe Fishing, Sea Fishing, ShoreFishing, Sports & Competition).

There are a relatively small number of fatalities associated with angling in the UK, indeed as percentage of the number of participants, the risks are comparatively and unsurprisingly low as compared to activities such as deep sea diving.

Some forms of fishing do bring higher risk courtesy of the environment be that standing in fast flowing rivers or in a small vessel deep sea fishing for example. But, even these usually will not see many life insurers decline to offer cover unless you are older or have health problems or if you engage in these activities professionally or semi-professionally.
