Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition of the central nervous system.  It has been estimated that some 100,000 people in the UK have MS and diagnosis is usually made between the ages of 20 and 40 and affects approximately three times as many women as it does men.

MS is a complex condition and it has many symptoms.  These symptoms might include; fatigue, vision problems and difficulties with walking, but MS affects people in different ways so those who are diagnosed with the same type of MS will not necessarily experience the same symptoms.

There are different type of MS;

  • relapsing remitting
  • secondary progressive
  • primary progressive
  • benign
  • MS in children

MS is not a curable condition however, treatments and specialists can help to manage the symptoms .

Pulse is a bespoke company, which means their underwriters assess each individual application on its own merits.  As the above examples illustrate, their underwriters’ tailor-make quotations on a case by case basis.

Underwriters usually require a GP Report. During the present Corona virus crisis, we are finding that there are surgeries who have invested in new technology that enables them to respond quickly to requests for Reports. But there are many surgeries who lack this technology and it is taking time for them to respond. If we encounter delays, we can arrange for Accidental Death cover to be put in place while medical evidence is obtained. This can be done quickly and cost effectively.

It is also possible that, in some cases, underwriters may defer making a decision for 6 months. Should this happen, again we are able to provide Accidental Death cover for the period of deferment at reasonable cost.
