11th – 17th April 2011: Depression Awareness Week |
Mental health issues are a commonplace problem in our society today. Thankfully advances in medical science in the treatment of conditions associated with Anxiety, Depression and other mental health issues have greatly improved the quality of life for many sufferers but there can still be problems for them, in the everyday conduct of their lives. Obtaining Life Insurance can, for instance, become a real challenge. Pulse is pleased to be able to say that it can arrange Life cover in a wide range of mental health cases. We can also provide cover with exclusions rather than just declining an application.
In mental health cases evidence of a stable lifestyle is of key importance and will tend to make obtaining life cover easier. Continuous employment and a long term relationship are good indicators of a stable lifestyle. Every case needs to be considered individually. Sometimes cases that appear at first sight to be very difficult may on closer examination of the facts be cases where life cover is quite possible. Take for instance the case involving a suicide attempt within the last twelve months. This would usually be declined. But if the attempt was associated with a sudden, one off, traumatic event, such as the death of a partner or child and there is no evidence of chronic mental illness or chronic drink or drug abuse, life cover can be possible. Every case must be looked at individually. Generally cover would be postponed if the client is pregnant and has a history of Post-Natal Depression.
