A little bit about Pulse...

Pulse Insurance Ltd (Pulse) specialises in arranging insurance to cover difficult to place and non-standard risks. Many cases seen by Pulse will have been previously declined by other companies.

Since it was formed in 1998, Pulse has grown into a thriving business and now operates from two offices, one in Dorset, the other in Northamptonshire. We are coverholders for Kiln Life at Lloyd’s of London; this, along with our close relationships with other UK authorised specialist insurers, enables us to meet the growing demand for a lengthening list of non-standard insurance risks.

Unlike many other companies, Pulse is able to offer cover for many types of non-standard risks, not just those with pre-existing medical conditions. These include individuals who, whilst perfectly healthy, are experiencing difficulty in obtaining the cover they require due to the nature and/or location of their work. Other clients include those who take part in hazardous pursuits such as motor sports or flying of helicopters or other light aircraft.

We are also able to arrange cover for non-UK nationals. Sometimes they may be employed by UK companies, or have property interests within the UK. Demonstrating a link with the UK will be an important factor.

Pulse recognises that each case is different and hence offers a bespoke service, which is tailored to the needs of each individual case. We pride ourselves on our personal customer service. Your call will be answered by an experienced member of staff, who will be able to help you through the process for obtaining cover. We do not operate a call center (or use a push-button answering service).

Director Profiles

Paul Sandilands - Managing Director

Paul Sandilands read law at Cambridge and qualified as a barrister. He has been connected with Lloyd’s of London for the majority of his working life. He joined the management of Pulse with David Elliott in 2000.

In addition to working at Pulse, Paul is a non executive director of two other Lloyd’s related businesses, Talisman Underwriting plc and Argenta plc, where he is also Non-Executive Chairman of the Compliance Committee.
He has written numerous articles on Lloyd’s and specialist aspects of life assurance. He has also given many talks on these subjects.

David Elliott - Finance & Compliance Director

David joined Pulse in 2000 and is now responsible for finance and compliance, having originally been involved in new business. He has extensive experience of the financial services industry gained through a career in stock-broking, investment management and insurance. Prior to joining Pulse, David was Director of Human Resources for Terra Nova Group, a New York listed international insurance and reinsurance business headquartered in Bermuda. David is based in our Dorset office.

Anthony Pilcher - Non-Executive Chairman

Anthony has had a long and distinguished career as an underwriter for several Lloyd's of London businesses and Chairman of several high profile companies, including F I P Secretan & Co.
